With the original varsity baseball coach retiring after 16 years at the school, coach Dionandre Josenberger will take his place.
Josenberger has more than 28 years of coaching experience, and he said coach David Wilson built up a great baseball program and has great athletes, and he said he looks forward to the opportunity to add to the school’s baseball program.
“Coach Wilson has done a great job of expanding the program to its greatest, and I am really excited to continue his legacy at Staley High School,” Josenberger said.
Josenberger shared some goals, leaning heavily on coming in as a new coach and creating relationships.
“Some goals I have set already are to start creating that good bond and relationship with the coaches and athletes, making sure that’s the first priority to anything on the team, and having those one-on-one conversations with the coaches and players,” Josenberger said.
Josenberger said he couldn’t wait to come to the school before the school year is over, watch some of the end-of-the-year games and meet with returning players.
“I plan on meeting the returning coaches and players and have conversations with them and get together this summer and get some work in following along with some team building activities,” Josenberger said. “To get to know them, and by the end of the year with hard work being put in, could lead the team to a state championship.”
Josenberger said he puts tremendous faith into his new team, setting up goals targeted toward the future of leading his team to a state championship.
“I believe coming in with the high expectations that have already been set with great energy, being positive teammates and coming to work hard that Staley’s baseball program is going to have a great shot at achieving the goals for the state championship,” Josenberger said.
With sophomore Brandon Perkins being a returning baseball player for the program, he is excited and ready to compete for the next season with coach Josenberger as the new head coach.
“Meeting the new head coach was very exciting for me,” Perkins said. “It’s always a good feeling with starting fresh and being able to compete with my teammates and having the opportunity to work hard for my spot on the field and show the new head coach that I am a leader.”
Junior Aven Abbott, another player returning for his senior year, has played for Josenberger for at least five years on a club team, and said Josenberger is a great coach for the program.
“He’s very smart and well experienced and has taught me so much,” Abbott said. “And he is going to push everyone to their best potential with competing practices and having us work hard over fundamentals this season being able to attend a state championship.”
