Change upsets students

Falcon Hour has been cut short. In previous years, it was an hour, but now it is 47 minutes. Many students have said that the class of 2016 is the cause of the cut, but it’s not, according to assistant principal in charge of Falcon Hour Dr. Chad Brinton.

“In order to fit in the freshmens new schedule and the blocks, we had to readjust,” Brinton said.

Some sophomores blame themselves for the time getting shortened.

“It’s probably our fault we got it shortened, because we weren’t doing anything for the last 30 minutes of Falcon Hour,” said sophomore Rileigh Bates.

The average time for students to eat lunch was between 7 and 10 minutes, but high schools show average slightly over 40 minutes in the cafeteria, according to SchoolNutrition.org.

“There are too many students trying to get their food at the same time,” said junior Riley Yack.

Brinton said administration has considered the problem with the lines and how students try to get their lunch all at once. That’s the reason for the concession stand and the extra carts.

“The lanes were put in to help kids get through the line faster,” Brinton said.

The lines should decrease as the school year continues because of the new cart stations. There are many places to get lunch, such as the Falcon express, the concession stand, the cart in the freshman locker bay and the cart in the great hall.

“As the year goes by, I feel like the lines will get better and the students will pick up,” said Bates.
