‘Beauty And The Beast’ Earns 2 Blue Star Nominations

Ceremony Modeled After Broadway’s Tony Awards

Beauty and the Beast” the musical was nominated for two Startlight Theatre Blue Star Awards. Senior Leland Samuel played “Beast,” and sophomore Olivia Johnson played “Belle” in the musical Oct. 12-14.

The Blue Star Awards are modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards.

“It was an amazing experience. The Blue Star nominations just add to how cool of a first show it was,” Samuel said.

The awards recognize mastery achievements of high schools from Kansas City and surrounding areas.

“It means a lot to be recognized among 60-70 high schools that participate,” theater director Danielle Trebus said.

The Blue Star Awards ceremony will be Thursday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend the free ceremony.
