Alex Bermudez is a senior and this is his second year on staff.  He is the advertising manager. Alex is in the Falcon Philharmonia and enjoys drawing and watching anything that’s trending. He is a fan of all things Star Wars. His favorite thing about being on staff is being a photographer.

With Chamber Choir and New Mark Middle School’s choir, senior Alex Lopez and Juniors Bailey Shafer, Garrett Otting, Gracie Gifford, Avery Mckenna and Leland Samuel sing Dec. 8 during their holiday concert. Senior McKenna Dubes and Sophia Miles, juniors Hannah Sheer, Wyatt Loar and Paisley Vincent follow along with the choir as they sing Christmas carols. Seniors Brett Benkovich, Draiden Parks, Lucas VanKeirsbilck and juniors Emma Mott and Emily Peck follow choir director Tracy Resseiguie’s cues. “I think it went really well,” Van Keirsbilck said. “It was a lot of fun. It gave us the chance to sing with our future Falcons.”

“A Summer Sundae Kinda Love,” created by artist Trew Love, was inspired by her childhood, when her father would take her out for ice cream. Love added a secret detail to tie her piece to Kansas City. There are two hidden Kansas City sports teams’ sprinkles. “There is a Royals sprinkle and a Chiefs sprinkle that you can find if you look for them,” Love said.

“Hope Blooms,” created by artist Ada Koch, was inspired by World War I and the portrayal of poppies. During WWI, poppies were a sign of hope after all the violence and destruction. Koch said the Parade of Hearts was something the Kansas City community could use after the events of the last few years. “We’ve all gone through the pandemic and a lot of unrest in the last two years, and they want to be positive, and I thought, ‘Perfect, poppies fit right in there,’” Koch said. Koch’s heart was placed at the WWI Museum, and she said she felt it was the perfect space.

Her design used simple primary colors and shapes. “I hope that because of how simple the shapes are and elementary the color scheme is that they become in tune with their inner child and are able to see the world through them,” Hanselman said.

The courtwarming game drew large crowds, nearly doubling the size of the student section. “It was easily the biggest crowd I’ve seen in my three years here," Fish said. "It just felt good people wanted to come watch the game."
