Chick-in Waffle 8702 NE Flintlock Road Kansas City, Missouri 64157

Chick-in Waffle in Liberty, Missouri, is a modern, comfortable spot that manages to balance a trendy aesthetic with genuine attentive service. From the moment I walked in, the staff greeted me with bright smiles and quick menu recommendations, which pairs perfectly with the solid, laid-back atmosphere. It’s the type of environment where one can just chill, enjoy the decor and grab some high-quality comfort food. It is definitely worth a return visit for anyone in the Northland.
The Order & Verdicts
Original Maple Chicken: The chicken is solid. It avoids the common mistakes of being overly dry or too tough to bite through. Instead, it offers a tender crunch with a rich, savory and slightly smoky maple seasoning. While it might not be the single best fried chicken I’ve ever had, it’s reliable and seasoned well enough that I would definitely eat it again. (7/10)
Original Bubble Waffle: This is a winner for me. It is extremely fluffy and easily one of the best waffles I’ve found find in the Northland. A bubble waffle is an egg-based waffle that looks like a sheet of golden bubble wrap, giving it a crispy outside and a soft, airy inside. This paired with their maple syrup the bubble texture provides a unique mouthfeel that just beats Belgian waffles. (8/10)
Mac & Cheese: A major standout of the meal, it easily beats out the side dishes at places like Chick-fil-A or KFC. In fact, this is probably one of the best fast-food mac and cheese I have ever had. It’s creamy, cheesy and tastes like it actually had some thought put into the recipe. (9/10)
Queso Fries (with Chicken & Jalapeños) (8/10): The seasoning on the fries is perfectly balanced with a smoky kick, and the queso has a nice, sharp cheesy taste. Naturally, the fries do get a bit soggy toward the end, but that’s completely expected when they are loaded up with heavy sauce and fresh toppings. (8/10)
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake: This was the absolute highlight of the experience. They use a wide straw, so I wasn’t struggling to enjoy the thick consistency. Between the swirl of caramel at the bottom and the blended cereal pieces, it’s easily the best-tasting milkshake I’ve had in a long time. (10/10)
Oreo Waffle: This one was unfortunately a miss. While the crispy bubble waffle texture remains a highlight, the flavor profile just didn’t land, and the experience was incredibly messy because you are trying to get waffle, ice-cream, chocolate syrup, and Oreos all in one bite. Given the $13 price tag, it is hard to justify the cost — especially when the flimsy plastic cutlery provided makes it a physical struggle to eat. It isn’t “gross,” it just isn’t the best dessert on the menu and very messy. (5/10)
Final Thoughts
For those heading to Liberty, go for the savory sides and the shakes, but maybe skip the overpriced dessert waffles. Between the top-tier Mac & Cheese and that 10/10 milkshake, Chick-in Waffle has earned a spot in my regular rotation. Overall, I rate it 8/10.
