Located in Kansas City on Southwest Boulevard, Tacos El Gallo is a popular, family-owned restaurant and food truck that has been serving authentic Mexican food since 2017. Known for its fresh ingredients and bold flavors, it has become a favorite spot for locals looking for homemade-style dishes in a welcoming atmosphere.
Southwest Boulevard is a well-known area famous for its strong Hispanic culture, authentic Mexican restaurants and lively Latin American bakeries. It connects the Westside and Rosedale neighborhoods and is an important place where people can experience the culture, food and traditions of the community.
When I first walked in, I was greeted by the smell of fresh tortillas and sizzling meat, which instantly made me excited to try the food. The walls and ceilings were lined with bright decorations and snacks, giving the restaurant a colorful and lively feel. The woman at the register was very kind and gave helpful suggestions, not only about what to order but also about other places to try in the future. The menu includes street tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas and Birria tacos, made with meats like carne asada, al pastor and carnitas.
I ordered two Picada-style grilled beef steak tacos and a pork tamale. The meal was affordable, costing about $10, and the food came out quickly in less than 10 minutes. There was also a wide selection of sauces and toppings to choose from. I tried the avocado salsa verde, which added great flavor to the tacos. The tacos were served with fried tortillas, which I thought was unique. The tortillas were soft, and the meat was juicy, tender and well-cooked.
The masa on the tamale was moist and not dry at all. The filling was well-seasoned, although there could have been a little more of it. While I was eating, soft music played in the background, and the restaurant felt calm and not too busy.
Overall, I would recommend Tacos El Gallo to anyone looking for affordable, authentic Mexican food in Kansas City. With great service and flavorful dishes, it is definitely a place I would visit again.
