It’s Homecoming week, and the theme is “High School Musical.”
“I think this is going to be one of the best Homecomings we’ve ever had,” Student Council president and top five queen candidate Annika Adiga said.
Adiga said she was most excited that every student could be part of Homecoming festivities.
“We wanted to make it more interactive and something that every student feels involved in, even if they aren’t in Student Council,” Adiga said.
This effort included a movie night last Sunday on the football field showing “High School Musical,” spirit days with opportunities to win prizes and Rochambau, a tournament style rock paper scissors game. It was the second year in a row that both king candidates were added to the Homecoming court alongside the queen candidates.
“There’s a lot of really good spirit days and parade themes, and I’m really excited to see how all the different clubs and activities at Staley get really involved and into it” Adiga said.
Homecoming week started with hallway decorating on Sept. 7. Vote here by midnight Wednesday for the best decorated hallway.
The top five candidates were crowned Friday, Aug. 5 at lunch. Voting for the actual Homecoming king and queen began Sept. 8 and ends Sept. 12 at 1:15 p.m. Students can vote at the link emailed to them by StuCo sponsor McKay Lannigan
The spirit day on Monday was “Fabulous” (pink out), followed by “All In This Together” (Staley gear) on Tuesday. Wednesday brings “Bet On It” (country club) and the Homecoming parade at 6 p.m. On Thursday, the spirit day is “Get Our Head in the Game” by wearing sportswear or jerseys. And Friday is “Breaking Free” with U.S.A. gear. At 6:30 a.m. Friday, seniors will decorate the school for the annual senior takeover. Kickoff for the U.S.A.-themed homecoming game is at 7 p.m.that evening. To wrap everything up, the Homecoming dance will be from 7-10 p.m.. Sept.13 at the school.
“We’re just going to do all sorts of fun things like that to make sure every student feels really at home, safe and excited for this Homecoming,” Adiga said.
The dance has a few slight upgrades. The school will be getting a new D.J., more decorations and two photo booths.
“It’s going to be just the same as it’s always been, but even better, more hype and more fun,” Adiga said.
