It’s Official: District Confirms Masks Return Monday

Letter Sent To Families, Staff

Email From District Jan. 7

Dear NKC Schools families and staff,

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as the impact of COVID-19 on our area ebbs and flows with ever-changing guidance as a result. As we shared yesterday, the Kansas City, Missouri City Council approved a new mask requirement for all individuals in schools serving grades K-12. This ordinance will take effect on Monday, January 10, expiring Thursday, February 3. Throughout the past 22 months, NKC Schools has consistently followed established Board policy to align our COVID-19 protocols with local guidance, including the use of masks. In response, NKC Schools will adhere to this new ordinance and update our practices accordingly.

Beginning Monday, January 10, masks will again be required for all students, staff and visitors indoors at all NKC Schools facilities. Due to the federal mandate currently in effect through Friday, March 18, masks will continue to be required for all individuals on buses. Our Board of Education plans to meet for further discussion in the coming days.

As a reminder, we are asking all members of our community to self-monitor for symptoms, such as new cough, headache, congestion, fever and/or sore throat. If you feel sick, it is important that you stay home from school. Individuals are then encouraged to contact their healthcare provider for further advice. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools healthy and safe.

We will continue to share updates regarding any further changes in our COVID-19 protocols. As always, we appreciate your understanding and support of our 21,000 students.
