Students Start Qudditch Team

Seniors Allison Nissley and Jake Gibson came up with the idea to start a Quidditch team at school.  The sponsor of the team is counselor Carol Toney.

“It was overdue,” said Gibson. “It needed to happen.”

This form of Quidditch will be different than the game seen in the Harry Potter series. The team consists of a keeper, two beaters, three chasers, a seeker and a person playing the Snitch. The game is played outdoors on a field and the main goal is for the seeker to catch the Snitch while chasers try to score goals that are being blocked by keepers and beaters try to hinder the chasers from scoring.

“It’s like Quidditch but human style,” said Gibson. “We’re not flying but we’re just running around on brooms.”

Many students are looking forward to finally getting the team off the ground.

“I know several people who the idea of starting a Quidditch team got them super excited,” said Nissley. “So we all came together and are making it happen.”

Toney said the goals of the team are to get the three other schools in the district to start teams, form a league and create teams for all grade levels.

“We’re all really excited to get together and start a new tradition here at Staley High School,” said senior Ashley Sykora.

The team will soon be selling T-shirts to the public for anyone who would like to purchase one.
