Junior’s Been Dancing Through Life Since Preschool
At the state track and state meet May 25, R.J. Collins earned the Class 5 Boys state Championship in the 200m dash with a record time of 21.23. He ran a 10.56 and took 3rd in the 100m dash. Shane Smith took 6th in the 200m dash, finishing off the weekend as a medalist in the 200m, 400m and the 4x200m. Smith placed 6th in the 400m with a time of 49.27. The boys 4x200 relay of Shafer, Smith, Freudenburg and Collins took third, running a 1:26:67. On May 24, Katy Taylor earned the Class 5 Girls Discus State Championship with a throw of 45.69m.

She traveled to LA with Staley News for a journalism convention her freshman year, which sparked her passion for journalism. In her free time, you can find her at the dance studio or helping at Bell Prairie for A+ hours. Savannah hopes to pursue a career that highlights her creativity, ambition, and fun personality.

While stepping into dance, sophomore Lyla Reeves, junior Sarah Tarpley, Kenzie Cornett and Carlie Redd lift up their poms as they perform their routine on Jan. 20 at Lees Summit North Invitational. The team scored third in Precision Jazz, sixth in Pom and fifthin Game Day. All six soloists medaled in their division. The season has been going pretty well, Tarpley said. Its not the best for what we want right now, but we have high hopes for state and nationals.
