With the swim team well into the season, the last thing they wanted was for their plans to change. Other than being a teacher and swim coach, Robert Barth was a role model to many students.

Many people have been expressing their feelings about the situation, including junior Daniel Maynard who said he was mad.

With Robert Barth’s absence many people have been wondering who will step up and take over as head coach for the swim team. Assistant coach Ian Johnston is currently in the head coach position until they find a permanent replacement. As for looking into the future, the school has talked to Brian Tempy, a great friend of Robert Barth, said Jared Vawter.

“It strengthened us more than it hurt us, and we came together more as a team.” Said Maynard.

Although this is a tough time, the swimmers are staying optimistic.

“I’m amazed as to how well the swim team is handling it. Said junior Kaya Raush-Santee. If it were one of my cheer coaches I don’t think I could be as positive about the situation as they have been.”

Barth did more than just coach them; he raised them and helped them achieve their goals.

“He really motivated us,” said sophomore Jared Vawter.

Barth was known for connecting with the students and really trying to understand his students.

“He was like a second dad to me,” Said Maynard.
