Are Valentines-Themed Treats Worth The Money?

When shopping for snacks and goodies around Valentine’s Day, there are the regular snacks, and the “limited edition” Valentines Day ones. The pink and red packaging can be tempting, and seeing your favorite snacks in a heart shape may make shoppers want to add it to their cart, but there might be a true difference between products and an added price.

Veggie Straws

I love Veggie Straws, so when I saw they had a pink heart version I immediately grabbed them.

The first noticeable difference is the texture. Original Veggie Straws are airy with a straw shape but still have a slight crunch. The new straws don’t have that same ariness to them; theydon’t have the straw aspect either. The Valentine’s edition bags are $9.99 for a 12 pack, the same price as the 12-pack of standard Veggie Straws at Target. Pricewise, there is no difference, so it really just comes down to wanting a pink heart-shaped chip or the straw. I would just go with the regular straw. I like the shape and the airiness they have.

Welch’s Fruit Snacks

Welch’s are a classic that I’ve had in my lunchbox since kindergarten. I didn’t notice a true difference between the original and the heart-shaped gummies. They were the same flavors, and same texture. The only noticeable difference is a to and from slot on the front on the bag to write your valentines, and of course the shape. The gummies were no longer shaped into the fruit that they were flavored as. An original 22 pack is $5.89, but the Valentines day 26 pack is $6.49. For sixty cents more, you get four more bags and their heart shape. I would just get the original.

Little Debbie

Little Debbie is a well known company for their bakery items and seasonal themed sweets. The “Valentines Cakes” are a spin on their “Fancy Cakes” both featuring white cake and cream filling in the middle dipped in icing. A pack of 10 of the “Valentines Cakes” are $2.79, the same price as a pack of 10 “Fancy Cakes.” They are totally worth it; they taste the same as the other cake while being a pink heart cake. For a cute Valentine’s Day treat I think these are a great choice to give out or keep for yourselves.

Overall, those who want a cute snack to celebrate Valentine’s Day would definitely choose these. The Little Debbie snack is my favorite because for a low price, they offer five packs of cute pink heart-shaped cakes. I don’t like spending extra money on the fact they are a different shape, but I do appreciate a cute heart-shaped snack.
