There are all kinds of nail salons around town, and it can be hard to know which ones have quality service and good prices. I tend to frequent the same salon but decided it’s time to check out a new place. Let’s just say, the new salon did not disappoint.

The Nail Lounge is a nail salon located in the Shops at Boardwalk. Upon entering the building, customers are greeted by a wall of polish and color options galore. Once they get signed in and choose  what they are getting done,  it’s time to pick out color and wait to be helped. Customers can come in with a reference photo showing what they would like done.

I went in with my nails having been done the previous month, so I needed to soak them in a warm bowl of acetone. After only a few minutes, the top coat began to come off, though it took closer to 30 minutes for someone to come get started on removing the old, and doing the new. From there, when the nail tech did come over she used the e-file to remove the product that was still on the nails efficiently.

Once the removal of the last set was complete, it was time to get to the new set. This process began with a simple nail cut. Once they were cut down, the nail tech attached the new tips and cuts and shapes them how one desires. The shaping was precise and turned out exactly how I wanted. Before getting the nail dip color, the nails were primed with a clear powder. From there, the nails we coated with an activator, and it was time for the dip. The activator and dip process was repeated until the color and consistency looked how it was supposed to. This set of steps didn’t take too long — their colors were opaque and coated nicely.

The final touches were applied. Using a different nail bit, the e-file was used one last time. A top coat was added to the nails, and patience was key to letting it dry. Once dry, customers must wash their hands, and that is what I did. Finally, the nail tech swiped the edge of each nail with cuticle oil. The oil was smooth and made the nails look more sleek. The nails were then complete. Nails can last up to three weeks before needing a fill.

The Nail Lounge is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., along with Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made online, but they also accept walk-ins.

This was my first time at this salon, and all in all it was a good experience. They were very busy, so it took a while to be seen, but the nails turned out just how I wanted. The price for a new set was $60, but The Nail lounge offered a 10% student discount, bringing the price down to $54. They also offered refreshments for those getting their nails done, which is a nice bonus. In the end I have more compliments than complaints.
