Recent changes to the Warhammer club have brought a surge in interest along with many new faces.
Warhammer Club is in its second school year, meeting most Tuesdays in ELA teacher Nic Brent’s room, CR122, to build, paint and play. Warhammer is a tabletop game produced by Games Workshop. Meant to simulate balanced combat, Warhammer utilizes miniature figurines to face off two or more opponents at a time.
Based in a futuristic fantasy world, Warhammer has an extensive and complex lore spanning across multiple games.
“There’s a variety of deep gameplay mechanics,” club president Dominic Dold said. “You can build and paint almost anything.”
The club has made it easier for newcomers who want to learn new skills regarding the game.
“A lot of people are definitely willing to introduce you to the game,” vice president senior Brock Painter said.
Those changes have brought in 15 new members with an interest to learn the different build styles and mechanics of the game. The club has miniatures to paint to help teach newcomers tips on the more artistic part of Warhammer.
“My favorite part about Warhammer club is the painting,” new member junior Andy Phung said. “It’s easy to focus on it with minimal distractions.”
With these new changes has come new ranks within the club. The ranks are all based on characters and factions from Warhammer. Dold, the Chapter Master, or president of the club, created new terms and ranks in order to have a more immersive community. All newcomers will be ranked as Neophytes, and seniors will be referred to as veterans or First Company.
“The official term we’re pushing is First Company,” Dold said said.
These changes show members’ passion and dedication to this hobby. The mission of the Warhammer club is to offer help and support to new members by creating a school community for an intimidating but fun game.
“My main reason for starting this club is that I love Warhammer, and I wanted to teach others how wonderful this hobby is and to give a space for people to have fun with it,” Dold said.
