When life becomes difficult senior Anna Gordon always has someone she can turn to. 

Gordon knows she could always count on her Grandma Teresa to be there for her. She said she has been though uphill battles in her life, but her grandma taught her lessons she could not forget.  

“She has really stepped into my life in times when I needed someone to, and she was very brutally honest, which is a quality I’ve adapted from her, and I really appreciate that,” Gordon said. “Her straightforwardness had led me to learn how to deal with confrontation and deal with my emotions better and in a healthier way.” 

Gordon and her grandma like to travel together, and Gordon said she loves how they get to try new things and connect with each other. 

“My favorite thing to do with my grandma is to travel,” Gordon said. “We both love seeing new places, and we always talk about the next place we want to do. It’s just really nice that we are able to connect and try new things together.” 

Gordon’s grandma taught her the truth always comes out. Gordon was having trouble with some drama her sophomore year, and she said her grandma was always up to listening and helping out. 

“I was feeling really down about myself and a lot of people believed something someone said about me that just wasn’t true,” Gordon said. “Instead of acting out and blowing up at all these people because I was so upset I decided just to keep my mouth shut, keep doing what I was doing, and eventually it blew over. It showed staying calm in that moment and not fighting back made the truth come out, and these people believed the truth about me.” 

Not only has her grandma been there for her, but Gordon said she always takes the advice she gets and tries to reflect on it to be there for her grandma or anyone who needs her. 

“Recently, her mother passed away, and it was really hard on her,” Gordon said. “She had a dream about her sitting on the porch with her husband and dad, but her dad died when she was 17. She was talking to me about this dream, and she believes it wasn’t a normal dream and that her dad was trying to speak to her in some way. A year after this her husband passed away, and it was a very emotional experience for her.”  

Gordon said her grandma gets misunderstood. She comes off independent and tough, but that is Gordon’s favorite thing about her. Gordon has been able to learn and grow from her grandma.
