Cherie Burgett, Adviser
This is Cherie Burgett's seventh year advising journalism at Staley High School. She advises Talon news magazine, StaleyNews.com and Legacy yearbook. She also advised STTV news for the first five years Staley was open.
She previously taught fifth grade at Elkhorn Elementary in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Burgett came to Staley with experience in journalism. Prior to becoming a teacher, she was a journalist for several years. She worked as an national and international news editor for Internet Broadcasting, and she was also a reporter for KTVO-TV 3 in Kirksville, Mo. She was on the team that launched KMBC.com for Channel 9 news, which was previously TheKansasCityChannel.com.
Burgett has two young sons, Adrian and Drew. She has lived in Kansas City, Mo., most of her life and is a 1994 graduate of Winnetonka High School. She earned her bachelors in broadcasting from Northwest Missouri State University in 1999 and her Masters in Education from Rockhurst University in 2007.
