The varsity boys basketball team dominated the Park Hill South Panthers in a Tuesday night matchup with a final score of 72-38. The team bounced back after a close week-one loss to Oak Park High School and evened out the record to 1-1 for the team’s first win of the season.
The “Silent Night” game meant that The Flock student section was quiet until the Falcons scored 10 points. The first score of the game from the Falcons came from a deep lob pass by sophomore Tra’Veon Moore that was caught mid-air by Xaxier Wilson and slammed down for the dunk, and the impressive play still got no reaction from The Flock.
It was a defensive and offensive rally from the team all through the first half, with the score being 39-23, giving them a comfortable lead at halftime. The team didn’t let up in the second half, outpacing the Panthers defense and stripping the ball away, limiting scoring from Park Hill South High School, only scoring 15 in the second half, opposed to Staley’s 33.
Sharing and scoring was the theme for the team, with four players scoring above 10 points. Including the sophomore forward Jackson Smith, coming off the bench and earning 12 points on the night. The Falcons’ leading scorer was Moore, who hardly missed any shots, which was enough for his 17 points. The team’s other top scorers were Avian Webb, the senior guard who produced 15 productive points, and Kenison Stone, the junior forward who made 13 points.
Staley’s next matchup will be a divisional matchup against Blue Springs South, January 3rd. The team will look for their first road win on the year, and to establish a winning record.
