Drum Line Strengthened Through Competition

After months of preparation, the time for drumline to show off their skills has come. Throughout the month of October they participate in three competitions. They began preparation over the summer during drumline camps that would last up to eight hours a day. This practice and dedication has continued through the start of the school year.

“We have morning practice every B day and evening practice every Monday and Thursday. Most sections also have sectional practice once a week,” said junior Andy Wooden.

This year on drumline, they have more underclassman than ever before. This has caused players to become more committed and have a better attitude, according to Wooden.

“We have a much younger, inexperienced line so it’s a little more difficult to translate what we’re trying to say to them,” said senior Austin Bressman.

The drumline as a whole has had to come together and put a lot of effort into their music, according to drumline teacher Candice Hill.

“I’m more confident in the drumline as a whole than I was in previous competitions. We’re more motivated; we just have to stay focused,” said junior Michael Trillo.

Their first competition is Saturday, Oct. 11 at Lees Summit North High School. The Falcon Brigade and Diamonds will also be competing.

“It’s our first competition this year, so I think we’ll get good feedback and grow from there,” said senior Ethan Hillman.
