The Falcon Brigade held their annual “Golden Marching Shoe Drill Down” this morning, and the winner earned the coveted golden shoe.

The band got into a Fundamental Block, “Fun Block,” and band director Meara Mitchell called out different marching steps, and to remain in the block, participants had to respond to the command in correct step and time.

For the past two years, members from the Diamonds have won the award. This year the band wanted to get the Golden Marching Shoe back from the Diamonds.

It came down to the final two participants; sophomore Diamond Samantha Drew and junior flutist Katelyn Watson. Everyone paid close attention to Watson and Drew’s feet to see who would be the first out.

Finally a winner was crowned, or shoed. Watson won and brought the Golden Marching Shoe back to the band.

“It was very stressful. I cried when I got the award. It just shows that I’ve worked hard enough to be the best marcher I can be,” said Watson.
