Junior wrestler Zayne Reynolds said wrestling has impacted and shaped him as a person over time, and he has grown relationships in this sport.
“I like to wrestle, that is basically all I do,” Reynolds said.
He has been wrestling ever since he was 5 years old, when his dad who wrestled in high school took him into the practice room, and he stuck with wrestling ever since. He has had many big accomplishments as well as impacted his life with skills and relationships.
“Relationships are probably the most important things,” Reynolds said. “It brings me closer with a lot of people like my teammates. Throughout the years, they’re going to be my brothers for life, they are just going to be in my life forever. Wrestling brings out a lot of great relationships.”
Reynolds said many people he has wrestled with over time will be there for him forever. Over time he has worked with many coaches, and they have influenced him and his wrestling, but the coach he said had the most impact on his wrestling career was Staley High School wrestling coach Elisha Bears. He said coach Bears stepped up when he was just a freshman, and that year he won a big tournament.
“I would say that all my coaches throughout my career has made a big impact, but coach Bears really stepped up when I came into high school and helped me through all of it,” Reynolds said. “It was really cool winning that tournament and getting all the praise.”
Reynolds has had many accomplishments when it comes to wrestling, but he said one of his biggest accomplishments is when he won a big tournament his freshman year. The tournament was ranked in the country as on of the toughest tournaments. He felt really proud of what he had accomplished. Reynolds said that He liked getting the praise from people surrounding him and he liked sharing that moment with all his friends, teammates, coaches and family.
The years of wrestling has helped Reynolds build his character and help become the person he is today.
“Wrestling built my character and just made me the person who I am today,” Reynolds said. “It pushed me a lot and makes me more mentally tough. It does a lot of good things for me.”
