Who let the dogs out? Student Council did with a project that turns old T-shirts into tail-wagging toys for shelter pups.
Student Council is hosting “Find Your Road”-themed StuCo districts Oct. 3. As part of the event, they wanted to organize a project that was not only fun but also meaningful to the community. After brainstorming, they decided to create dog toys to donate to the KC Pet Project.
“We thought this would be a fun, hands-on project, but also something that gives back to the community,” Student Council president senior Anika Adiga said. “It’s simple, creative and it helps animals who really need it.”
From Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, the school community is encouraged to bring in old T-shirts, towels, socks or other similar fabric. These materials will be repurposed into handmade toys for dogs — simple braided ropes that are easy to make but bring joy to shelter pets.
“Essentially, students can bring any form of old T-shirts or towels to make dog toys out of,” Adiga said. “You just cut the strips, braid them, and it’s super easy. Plus, it’s a really cool way to recycle things and help animals at the same time.”
Donations will be collected outside CR206 until Oct. 2. StuCo students attending districts will help assemble the toys. The project blends creativity and service, showing how something as simple as an old shirt can be transformed into comfort and play for an animal in need.
