As the school year starts, students need to start working to get their volunteer hours done for different school programs. Different diploma options and programs the students can pursue have different requirements to complete before graduation.
All diplomas require 20 hours of community service before graduating. There are three different diplomas .
The first option is the Gold Medallion diploma which requires 100 hours of tutoring, community service or mentoring, and the 20 hours required for graduation are included in the 100 hours needed.
AP Capstone and the College and Career Readiness diplomas require 20 hours of community service, and the only difference is that AP capstone requires students to pick up AP Seminar and AP Research and they must score a 3 or above on each.
There are also two other programs requiring service hours – National Honor Society and the A+ program.
NHS requires 30 hours of tutoring and community service per year. NHS directors offer 12-15 service projects to help.
A+ requires 50 hours of tutoring.
