A new social media trend, BeReal has gained popularity quickly.
The app started with 921,000 users but has expanded in two years to 21.6 million, according to Business of Apps. It sends a notification to the user at a random point in the day. Users have two minutes to take a picture of what they are doing at the moment and also take a photo of themselves.
This app differs from other social media apps because it makes the users be realistic about their lives. It encourages them to show who they are behind filters and without edited photos.
