When someone hears “Root Beer Day”, they may think it’s some new national holiday. They’d be wrong. Root Beer Day is Shayla Crumb-Potmesil’s perfect way to get thrown back into the new school year.

“We’ve been doing it for five years now,” Crumb-Potmesil said. “We love it.”

It starts with her father going out and buying a keg of the soda around the time summer ends. The family drinks it throughout the day and grabs a glass with every meal. They chug and chug to finish off the five-liter keg before the day is over.

“My dad just brought home a keg of root beer before school started and declared it root beer day,” Crumb-Potmesil said.

The family of four doesn’t get up to anything crazy after they get hopped up on sugar. They sit around the living room and play video games all day. It’s the teenage dream, full of soft drinks and gaming.
