As the school year is coming to an end, new officers are being elected for clubs for the next school year. New people are stepping up as leaders, taking on new rules of trying to make the clubs better as well as keep the same expectations. These student clubs include NHS (National Honor Society), HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) and WEC (Women’s Empowerment Club).
National Honor Society Presidents

Katelynn Alexander, 11
How do you feel about becoming a new officer?
“I’m really excited about it; there’s a lot of exciting things that are going to happen next year. I’m also loving working with the old officers to learn how to be a good officer next year.”
What motivated you to become president?
“I really wanted to step into a leadership role and get that experience with leadership.”
What challenges did you face while trying to become president?
“I was worried about the natural election process. I’m not very familiar with it, so we weren’t allowed to campaign. So that was a challenge to get word out that I was running and why I should be president.”
What are your plans as president?
“My plan is to make it more accessible to users, so it’s more organized and they know where they can access things to see how many hours they have done and keep everything more organized.”

Carson Crockett, 11
How do you feel about becoming a new officer?
“I’m really glad that I am. It’s something that I was hoping for. I’m excited that I get to use my leadership position to get some ideas out that I think would be beneficial for everyone.”
What motivated you to become president?
“I wanted NHS to be more fun than mature, and if I wanted that to happen the best way would be to do it myself. As well as it looks good on college applications.”
What challenges did you face while trying to become president?
“I think the biggest challenge was trying to get a speech that was effective and convey what I wanted to do in my position but also wasn’t too long.”
What are your plans as president?
“I want NHS to be more fun, and I have an idea for a project of using trash bags to make into yarn that can be used to crochet into sleeping mats for homeless people. I think that’s a project that hasn’t been done before, so I’m excited to get that done.”
Women’s Empowerment Club President

Annika Adiga, 11
How do you feel about being elected president again?
“I’m very excited; we have done really well since our founding a little over a year ago. We just want to keep growing, not only in size but also in our abilities of what we can do. I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to work with everyone again and make it even better.”
What motivated you to become president?
“Since we founded my sophomore year we have just kept the same leaderboard but have continued to grow it among the freshmen and sophomores. We don’t see it has much as officers, just more of a bunch of leaders, because everyone in the club is a leader. What motivated me was to continue working with the amazing people around me.”
What challenges did you face while being president?
“Trying to coordinate our club’s efforts to work since we have so many people and trying to make sure that we’re providing opportunities for our members to get involved without getting in the way of everything else they do. So, I would say the biggest challenge is trying to make the time our members give to us the most impactful that they can be.”
What are your plans as president?
“We definitely have a lot of big plans. We just had our annual 5K. We have also done a lot of drives for the community but next year we are looking to go more into the community and do some community based initiative, such as bringing our team out there from school. We also have some plans for at school that we are still working on behind the scene. Overall, keeping everything we are doing now while creating new projects.”
HOSA President

Madelyn Gaul, 11
How do you feel about becoming a new officer?
“I’m excited for the next term, and I’m excited for my new officer term to come in. It will be fun to work with different people with different perspectives compared to this year.”
What motivated you to become president?
“I’m super passionate about health care. This club is dedicated to health care and building future professionals. I’m excited to be able to pursue that in a leadership role.”
What challenges did you face while trying to become president?
“One of the challenges is having to get elected as a sophomore, and since I’m young, there’s that challenge built into it.”
What are your plans as president?
“We are looking to have more student involvement with more opportunities for students to get involved. Creates more voluntary opportunities so we can have more service based activities for our club.”
We attempted to include the Asian Student Union but did not hear back from their leadership.
