Student Council is holding their first annual Week of Giving this week.
“This is the start of a tradition we hope to continue annually,” StuCo member Annika Adiga said. “We wanted to create a positive space for students during the midst of testing and finals. It’s a way for us to give to students, through hot cocoa and banana splits, and for students to hopefully give back through donations for Special Olympics.”
Monday is the Winter Wish Wall. Students can write wishes on a post it and stick it on the giant snowflake in the lunchroom. It will be up the whole week.
On Tuesday, Banana Split Day, students can enjoy a banana split. To participate, students must bring their own banana to lunch, and StuCo members will help them create an ice cream sundae. Students do not need to use their banana during lunch, but every student who wants ice cream must bring one regardless of if they’re going to use it in their sundae.
Wednesday is Community Service Candy Day. To participate, students must bring proof they have done community service recently, such as a form or photo to receive candy during their lunch period.
Thursday is Hot Cocoa Day. Students can bring a mug during their lunch, and StuCo members will pour them a cup of hot cocoa.
Friday is Donation Day. StuCo members will be going around lunch tables with baskets to raise money for Special Olympics. Baskets will also be at school entrances and exits during the day.
The Adopt A Family tree will also be available throughout this week. Students can grab ornaments off trees and turn in the attached gift to sponsor McKay Lannigan’s room, CR 206, on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Also this week, students are voting for a staff member to get pied in the face. They take cash to lunch and vote for a teacher. The money goes to support the Special Olympics charity to vote which teacher would get pied in the face the following week during the winter assembly.
