Bringing the Green
May 13, 2019
In the 2019-2020 school year many new clubs are arising like an environmental club run by sophomore Olivia Hutchcraft. The environmental club is more of an awareness club and how to take steps to make the earth a better place. This club isn’t confirmed for the next year.
“I want people to learn about why being environmentally friendly is important and how to help others and themselves be eco-friendlier while helping the community,” said Hutchcraft.
Earth is being polluted. Pollution can cause contaminants and toxins, which may harmfully affect your health.
“I am hoping to speak at events or board meetings which have a lot of people attending to spread awareness, as well as putting on an event or cleaning up and helping communities in eco-friendly ways,” said Hutchcraft.
Some ways you can be environmentally friendly are, using less gas. Walking or biking to school. Keeping your electronics out of the trash, E-waste contains mercury and other toxics and is a growing environmental problem.
“Once I start a club and have a good group of people joined, I hope to change things in our school that could benefit the environment, change things in our community and spread the need to be more environmentally friendly,” said Hutchcraft.
In the future the Earth will experience temperatures rising, more droughts and heat waves, sea level will rise 1-4 feet by 2100 according to NASA. When the environmental club starts they will encourage stopping what will may happen in the future.
