Things to Do During the Fall

Many people love the fall season. It is the season that holds the spookiness of Halloween and the family love of Thanksgiving. Fall is when Uggs and sweaters are broken out of the closet, pumpkin spice is raved about on the daily, and everything is festive and beautiful inside and outside. But what on earth can one do? Sit and watch the leaves fall? That is a gorgeous option, but it’s not too exciting.

In the spirit of the season, pumpkins are fun to carve and make popular decorations. Pumpkin carving is a traditional activity that many people have been enjoying since they were children.

“I like how it’s just something we do every year,” junior Marie Brancato said. “My sister and I have competitions on which is better.”

So, the first option for a seasonal activity is none other than the pumpkin patch. There are many in the Kansas City area, and all of them have many creative activities. Pumpkins are available to pick out and take home, apple cider is there to try, corn mazes are available to adventure in like the Liberty Corn Maze, and more. For example, Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch offers limitless opportunities for friends and family to have fun.

Another option is the Renaissance Festival. At the Ren Fest, people can choose to go dressed up or in normal clothes. The Ren Fest is a festival set in the Medieval time period. There are knights, kings, queens, horses and more activities than one might think. There are jousting, shopping and outlandish characters roaming all around.

“I enjoy seeing all the different people, spending time with my family, and eating the turkey legs,” junior Blake Evans said.

It is an event that harbors fun for its visitors and it is a popular event to check out and experience.

For all of the sports fans out there, football is a popular fall sport. Most Sunday’s, the Kansas City Chiefs play a game that is sure to bring excitement. Going to Arrowhead Stadium is an amazing experience whether with friends or family. Food like hot dogs and ice cream are available and can be eaten at leisure, and games are a place to be as noisy as desired to cheer on the team. Make sure to grab a bright red sweatshirt and head out for a wonderful time supporting the team this fall.

Fall is most commonly known as the season which holds one of the most popular holidays, Halloween. Halloween is a time for scary movies, fun costumes and all the candy and sweets one can eat. Worlds of Fun, Halloween Haunt is an extremely popular attraction throughout the fall season. Halloween Haunt is full of creepy monsters and spooky myths, while people are able to roam the park freely, get scared and be chased by freestanding characters, they are also able to go into specific haunted houses. Some haunted houses are set up so that small groups of people have to guide themselves through the terrifying and jumpy scenario; others, however, are set up in a large continuous single file line that doesn’t stop moving until it ends.

“My favorite house definitely has to be Asylum Island, mainly because of how scary it is,” sophomore Colby Roberts said. “The very first time I ever went, I got so scared I ran into the bathroom, and my dad had security search for me because he thought I was kidnapped.”

It’s safe to say that if all else fails, the best fall thing to do is relax, whether it be with friends or family. Curling up in a comfortable place with warm and fuzzy blankets and clothes while sipping a hot drink of choice can be an ideal way to spend autumn days. Put on a favorite movie or television show, or just sit and laugh with the people meant to spend the season with.
