People often have special bonds with their grandparents, but for senior Adam Brown it was more than a bond, it was memories and life skills he would remember forever.
“They’ve always been a big part of my life,” Brown said. “They used to live a few hours away in Springfield, and I’d go down there all the time. I always looked forward to being with them.”
When his grandparents moved closer, so did their bond.
“They moved here when I was 8, and after that, I got to see them a lot more,” Brown said. “They’ve always been there for me. I don’t think they’ve ever been truly mad at me, which is kind of crazy to think about.”
Some of his favorite memories, things he says he will remember forever, are with his grandpa.
“When they still lived in Springfield, they had this little Gator, it’s like a small work truck,” Brown said. “I was about 5, trying to drive it. Me and my grandpa ended up hitting a trash can, and we just switched seats and drove off like nothing happened.”
His grandma meant just as much to him, the time that they spent with one another were times he really valued.
“After work sometimes, I go over to her house and play card games with her for a couple hours,” Brown said. “She’s super caring and always does nice things for people. I definitely see that in myself. She’s also really stubborn and I got that, too.”
As he’s was getting ready to graduate, he said he was thankful for all of the memories and lessons they taught him.
“Family and faith are really important to me, and that because of them,” Brown said. “They always made sure we stayed close as a family. There’s just something different about the bond you have with your grandparents; it’s really special.”
