Lineberry Experiences Childhood Dreams
From reading books during her childhood to actually visiting the place she’s dreamed about, ELA teacher Shannon Lineberry fulfilled a childhood aspiration when she went to London with her twin sister for their fortieth birthday.
Lineberry and her sister were able to fly since her sister’s husband travels often and had travel points saved up so they could go to London and get a hotel room for free. The sisters had planned to go on a different trip for their birthday before, but it got pushed back.
“Originally, we had planned a beach trip,” Lineberry said. “It got postponed since our stepfather died.”
Instead of going to the beach, Lineberry and her sister went to London and visited all the historical sites she had read about in her books. But it was a very spontaneous trip.
“We had a very small window to do it,” Lineberry said.
It was a seven-day trip, and two of the days were flying.
“We didn’t get any sleep, or just barely on the plane,” Lineberry said.
When they landed, they ended up walking six blocks to Buckingham Palace. Lineberry and her sister had a good time going to all the historical sites.
“My sister was a history major in college, and I just like history, especially how it relates back to literature,” Lineberry said.
They even visited one of Henry the 8th’s castles.
“We visited all the places we had read about in the books,” Lineberry said.
They took multiple modes of transportation.
“We used every mode of transportation they offered,” Lineberry said. “We rode the tube, a bus, we took a taxi and had to take a train to go to Henry the 8th’s castle. We just hit all the historical sites.”
Lineberry said she enjoyed the trip, but she also wished it wasn’t so rushed so she could have enjoyed London at a slower pace.
“It was very exhausting but so much fun, I can’t wait to go back,” Lineberry said.
