Science Olympiad Prepares For State

Science Olympiad is getting ready for state after winning awards in every event at regionals on March 9 at Penn Valley. The team was 10 points away from first in regionals, the best they’ve ever done, according to teacher Greg Spiegel.

“Our team members are very prepared,” said Spiegel. “Seniors have really stepped up this year to help out everyone else on the team.”

With state coming up, the team is preparing to beat their rivals, the reigning champion, Pembroke High School.

“We have practices every night after school for an hour to two hours each,” said sophomore Mikayla Stupps, who won third in Forestry and Experimental Design and fourth in Write it, Do it. “We also do research on our own.”

Spiegel said the seniors are showing a lot of leadership skills and are helping out others on the team.

“This is one of our best years,” said senior Dan Flores. “We have a real shot of going to nationals.”

State is on April 5 and the top two teams will get to go to on to nationals.
