The girls varsity soccer team has been very successful in their season. They have been undefeated in their conference tournament. According to assistant coach Travis Mauzey their most successful win was against Fort Osage where they defeated 5-1. It gave them a two-game advance in the conference tournament.
“We had a few fallouts, but the girls came back very nicely from it,” said Mauzey. “I’m very proud of how much they have improved this year. I think we are a much faster team this year.”
In one of the first games of the season, sophomore Harrison Hayworth scored five goals against North Kansas City high school, thus beating the school record at Staley. At the next game that they played against North Kansas City, she beat her own record, scoring six goals against them.
“It’s been so much fun. It’s always great to hang out with the ladies,” said Hayworth. “I am really excited to go to districts.”
On April 9, the Lady Falcons defeated Platte County in the Platte County soccer tournament. The final score was 3-1. This is the second year in a row that the Lady Falcons have won the tournament.
“It’s going really good so far. We’ve lost to all of the teams and beat all of the teams that we were supposed to,” said senior Lauren Sullivan. “If we stay undefeated in conference, I think we are going to advance in to districts.”
The district tournament is scheduled to begin on May 11 through May 13.
Senior night for the varsity team, honoring the seniors and their excellent season, is going to be on May 9.
