Cheer Prepares for Nationals Cheer Prepares for National

With less than a month left to prepare for nationals, the Cheer team has been practicing for many hours to improve for their routine instructed by coach Jennifer Newman.  The team has taken a hit from the flu season but is improving nonetheless, said senior Bethany Steyer.

“We’re learning the routine right now,” said Steyer. “I could improve but it takes time.”

The nationals are being held in Louisville, Kentucky on Feb. 23.  Many cheerleaders have said they’ve gotten stronger with the harder practices and are making progress.

“I’m more in shape this year,” said sophomore Tai-Rece Basey. “And I’ve tried to become more of a leader for the team.”

Newman said she is extremely proud of how much her team has improved from the beginning of the year.

“They strive to be the best representatives of Staley at all times,” said Newman.
