Senior Trent Hosick has been named a national finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award. According to the Wendy’s high school Heisman website, the award honors hardworking individuals who excel academically and athletically.
“The definition of the award is someone who exemplifies excellence on the athletics field or court or whatever sport it is and then someone who has an impact on the community and also takes their academics very seriously,” said Hosick. “It’s pretty neat to be recognized.”
Hosick said he strives for excellence in everything he does.
“Since I was young, my parents have just always taught me to pursue excellence in every area whether it’s academics, athletics, relationships with people,” said Hosick.
He said he aims to be an influence on the community around him.
“My thoughts and impressions are that he has had a very positive influence on the students here,” said counselor Robert Lundien, who realized Hosick met the criteria for the award and worked together with coach Fred Bouchard to get Hosick to apply.
Hosick said he believes that football is his platform to spread his influence to others like his family and coaches have had on him.
“My older brother
has been a huge influence on me because he’s the only guy that I know who has been through similar circumstances that I have,” said Hosick. “He knows what it takes to feel kind of lonely, to spend a lot of time by yourself. And he kind of taught me that feeling alone isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It just means that you’re staying in for something.”
Hosick will be going to New York for Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Banquet on Dec. 7 where the two national winners will be announced.
