Ahletes to Watch For

Chloe Clement

Sophomore Chloe Clement is new to Staley this year, but she’s already number one on the girls’ varsity tennis team. Clement has been playing tennis since she was five years old.

“Neither of my parents played and no one in my family played, so I just picked up a racket,” said Clement. “It’s a lot different from last year. I played the same position last year, but switching schools was a bit difficult. Everyone on the team is really nice.”

Nick Hoover

Freshman Nick Hoover plays defensive line on the freshman football team. Nick has been playing football since about 3rd or 4th grade.

“I just liked football. I watched it on TV and stuff and everyone was starting to do it. It’s fun to hit people and to be a part of a team,” said Hoover.

Previous to being on Staley’s football team, he’s played for the Northland Chiefs and the Engelwood Packers.

“Great kid, with great potential,” said coach Josh Lorenson.

Danny Maynard

Sophomore Dan Maynard has been swimming since he was 5.

“My family swam their whole lives, so I did too.” Said Maynard.

The year has just barely begun and he’s already qualified for state. Maynard has qualified in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay so far for state. He qualified last year as well.

“I like the commitment and the hard work you have to put in to be good, and the goals you can set for yourself to achieve,” said Maynard. “I hate the disappointment of not achieving the goals.”

Maynard said that his favorite event is the 200 backstroke.
