Not So (Para) Normal Novel

As a young adult science fiction lover, when I first saw Paranormalcy by KierstenWhite book I couldn’t help, even though everyone says not to, but judge it by its cover. The cover screams stereotypical “Bella-like” female main character. I was, however, happily proven wrong when in the first few pages I learned about the spunky and refreshing main character, Evie.

Evie is just like every other teenage girl who loves pink, watches TV and has a relatively normal life. The only difference between her and the usual high school experience is that she lives at the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA) where she helps catch and tag paranormals. Her ignorance of the outside world leaves her with the impression that the world is what her favorite drama show “Easton Heights” portrays it to be.

Her quirky imagination had me giggling hysterically throughout the book and gave an outside perceptive on how life looks for those not used to the norm. The love interest in the story, a shape shifter named Lend, was adorably caring and patient as he became more trusting in Evie. He and Evie kept me amused with their constant banter and hesitant growing affection toward each other. This book was a fun and unique look into a paranormal world. I give this novel 4 out of 5 talons.
