Paraprofessional Jake Hunter kicked off the new action/ adventure book club on Feb. 6 in the Special Events Center with 11 members for their first meeting. The book club will focus on what the group members would like to read. They hope to expand their range from simple, modern books to some of the classics.

“I was pleased to see how many people showed,” said Hunter.

When picking books, members recommend a book or books, and the group votes on what to read. Hunter said he considers the group to be a democracy.

“I originally joined the other book club, but it was mostly girls,” said freshman Brett Mason. “So the librarian decided to make a club more for boys.”

The club is starting with the book Eragon by Christopher Paolini and plans to have meetings about every three weeks.

“It was nice seeing a different side of people,” said senior Matt Wilks. “And seeing a bunch of guys that usually wrestle talking about books.”

The next meeting is going to be held on Feb. 28 in the Special Events Center.
