Students Deliver Flowers To Classes

Flowers are being delivered by students to classes all over the school. Janice Henson, the teacher of gaining our independence and life skills class, takes all of her students to deliver these flowers. Teachers put out vases to put their flowers in and the students pick up and clean them on Wednesdays. On Thursdays Henson picks up the flowers from Kansas City Wholesale Flowers, and on Friday the flowers are delivered.

“We do it as a service to teachers, and to help the kids get out in the building and learn social skills,” said Henson.

Henson the Kansas City Wholesale Flowers delivers the flowers to the florists. If the flowers aren’t delivered soon enough they are thrown away because they won’t last as long. Henson picks up the flowers that otherwise wouldn’t have been used.

“Most of the teachers arrangements last for at least a week,” Henson said.

There were sign ups for the teachers who wanted flowers at the beginning of the year and they are now delivered weekly.

“The best part about it is the kids are getting out in the building, and kids in classrooms are beginning to address them by name,” said teaching assistant Kelly Louis.

“It’s a win-win for everyone,” said Henson.
