A Special Drawing Connection

Since she was 10 years old, freshman Carla LaSala has wanted to be an animator.  It’s always been a hobby for her to develop her love of art while working with her dad, who is also an artist.

Since she was able to hold a brush, LaSala’s dad would do art protects with her and her brother, almost every weekend. Growing up, he showed her more and more art stores that helped pique her interested in art. Their favorite is called Artist and Craftsmen in downtown Kansas City. They have transformed their basement into an art studio where they paint and draw at least three times a week.

“Since I was little, I used to always watch my dad draw, and he’d give me tips. And he’d always take me to different art stores,” LaSala said.

LaSala and her dad have always shared a special connection over art.

“I still think I’d like to draw, but without my dad, I don’t think I’d be as good,” she said.

LaSala knows exactly what she wants to do when she’s older – she is set on being an animator for Disney. This passion and love of art is thanks to her dad and their strong and special connection.
